Marli's Thoughts
What does H1N1 have to do with Management Matters and the resolution of workplace conflict?
Customized Support
Workplace conflict and dysfunctional team dynamics involve humans, not robots. A one-size-fits-all approach often results in misdiagnosis of workplace conflict and attempted "resolutions" that fail to meet the needs of the specific parties involved. As a result, courts and tribunals have criticized managers for failing to approach these matters on an individualized basis.
For these reasons, it is important for managers to ensure they approach workplace conflict resolution on a case-by-case basis.
In order to support managers with this process, Marli Rusen offers the following customized support:
- Marli works directly with managers, either in-person or on the phone, to help design individualized "road-maps" to guide the resolution of complex or unique employee performance or human rights issues. Examples of individualized support include assistance with complex workplace accommodations, substance abuse intervention, disability management, mental health issues and prolonged unexplained absenteeism;
- Marli facilitates confidential management round-table discussions in which supervisors and managers of a given team or workplace bring forward employee-specific concerns and challenges that require resolution; and
- Marli designs individualized, practical training courses to address unique issues that arise in a given workplace or department.
